Captain Jim's Landing
Adam's Nautical Site
Adam Graser is relief captain on the MV Miss Heather for Kirby Inland Marine. His site has information about the west run of Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, and a cool animated "how locks work" feature.
Capt'n Jim's Landing
From Texas to Arkansas, get out of his way -- Captain Jim is coming through! He's the captain of the Martin Navigator. A lot of his site concerns the Ouachita, one of the most beautiful rivers in the US.
Captain Jimmy's Mississippi River System
A really nifty site with animation and everything. Check out the interactive Trivia Page, and be sure to play "Where's Captain Jimmy?"
Life on the river with towboater David Estrada
A well-put-together site with lots of interesting features and links. Made on a Mac.
Old River Bill
A huge site dealing with R/C model towboats; drawings, information, hundreds of photographs.
Pilots Agree
The web site of Capt. Dickey Mathes. There's also a Pilots Agree link on the Wheelhouse Report labor links page. But Capt. Dickey is a riverman who speaks his mind and often shares personal thoughts, so his site sort of belongs here too.
Riverboats, Steamboats, Sternwheelers, Sidewheelers
A great web site by Dave Dawley. Lots of information about early life on the rivers.
The Stern Watch
A look at life aboard a towboat -- from a crewmember's point of view. Also towboat terminology and lots of photographs and links. Be sure to click the "River Tour" link.
Tommy Towboater
The Deckhand Tutor. Useful information about the job and lifestyle of the inland river deckhand. On-line instruction on safe work habits, as well as how-to photographs. A list of safety rules and a glossary of towboating terms.
Towboat Joe
Infomation, photos, models, and plans of inland river work boats on the Ohio River.
Towboat Joe's VHF frequencies
If you have a programmable scanner, you might be especially interested in Joe Brown's on-line, printable list of marine VHF radio frequencies.
